Dyno daywhy the correction factor is the whole story

Two dynos, one car, sixty horsepower apart. Neither is lying — but only one sheet tells you which numbers you can compare.

The sixty-horsepower argument

Put one car on two different dynos in the same week and you can walk away with numbers sixty horsepower apart. Forums treat this as scandal. It is arithmetic: load type, correction standard, tire pressure, strap tension, and the weather all live inside that gap.

What we print on every sheet

  • Correction standard (SAE J1349 vs STD — they differ by several percent)
  • Ambient temperature, pressure, and intake air temperature at pull time
  • Gear, tire pressure, and strap configuration
  • All three pulls — not the best one

Reading someone else's sheet

The only numbers worth comparing are same-dyno, same-day, same-correction deltas. That is why our build pages publish baseline and after from one session. A peak number without its context is a phone number without an area code.

The dyno is not a scoreboard. It is a measuring instrument, and instruments come with error bars.
